MAHARO @ 万代島旧水揚場跡地 in Niigata (2016.03.13 – 2017.07.03)

新潟市万代島賑わい創出社会実験
2016年3月開催の「にいがた酒の陣」、4月開催の「G7新潟農業大臣会合」を控えた万代島港湾地区にて「賑わい創出社会実験」の一環として、国内アーティストのMAHARO、Mon、澁谷忠臣、G7参加国のフランスからAlexone Dizacの4名を招き旧水揚場にミューラルアートの制作を行いました。
新潟を象徴し、日本一とされる美味しい「米」と「酒」には、肥沃な大地と豊富な水、自然環境による恩恵があります。そこで食への感謝を込め、稲作の豊穣をもたらすと信じられてきた「田の神」をテーマに制作しました。

Creation of Bustling in Bandaijima, Niigata-city Pilot Program
Invite domestic artist like MAHARO, Mon, Tadaomi Shibuya and Alexone Dizac from France and created mural art at Bandaijima harbor district as a part of “Creation of Bustling Pilot Program” to gearing up for “Niigata Sakenojin” in March, “G7 Niigata Agriculture Ministers’ Meeting” in April, both in 2016.
Rice and Sake (which is made from rice) are Niigata’s most loved indigenous products among nation-wide Japan. Blessed with fertile ground and rich spring water, which means Niigata has gotten the benefits of natural environment. With that being said, “TA NO KAMI” which means deity of rice fields and harvests is set to the theme for this piece and showing appreciation for food we eat.

Biography

MAHARO
2000年にイラストレーター／ペインター／アートディレクターとして活動を始める。ミュージシャンとのコラボレーションや企業広告を中心にイベントフライヤー、CD、レコードジャケット、壁画、映像素材などでイラストを提供している。ライブペインティングではアジア圏やヨーロッパ圏をはじめ海外へも活動の場を広げている。GROUNDRIDDIM所属

Started off his career as an illustrator / painter / art director in 2000. He’s been focusing on working w/ musicians & company advertisement by creating Event Flyers / Artworks for CD, DVD & Records / Wall Painting / Character Design for the Films. Also known his skill on the live painting globally. Representing “GROUNDRIDDIM”
