Niigata Skateparkミューラルアート導入。1964年の新潟地震により新潟市の西港は壊滅的な被害を受けました。昭和大橋の落橋、佐渡汽船埠頭は船が着けない程の被害を受け、新潟西港の工業地帯も海水に覆われました。これらの惨状を救い、西港の復興に欠かせない一つの力に、ジャズアーティストDuke Ellington（デューク・エリントン）による大きな善意の力があります。それは、当時来日していたDuke Ellingtonが、新潟の惨状を聞き、ハワイ公演をキャンセルしてまで、東京にて新潟地震救済資金募集の特別コンサートを行い、収益金をすべて新潟市に贈りました。後にこれらが切掛けで、新潟市より国際親善名誉市民の称号を受けました。こういった背景と功績をNiigata Skateparkに集う次の世代に伝える為に、作品コンセプトをDuke Ellingtonが奏でるメロディが、夕暮れの新潟の街に響き渡るイメージで制作しました。制作実施にあたり、ご支援くださったBoosterの方々に心から感謝致します。

Due to Niigata earthquake in 1964, West Port in Niigata city was devastatingly damaged. Collapse of Showa Ohashi, Sado Kisen Wharf suffered damged to an extent that ship were impossible to reach port. The industrial area of Niigata West Port was also covered with seawater. To save these miseries and reconstruction of West Port, power of great goodwill by the Jazz artist Duke Ellington was indispensable. Ellington, who was in Japan when earthquake hit Niigata, heard such tragedy and immediately canceled his performance in Hawaii to hold a charity concert in Tokyo to support Niigata, and gave all proceeds to Niigata city. His great action had led him receive the title of International Friendship Honorary Citizen from Niigata city. To convey this background and achievement to the next generation that gathering at Niigata Skatepark, this piece is created as the image of melody that Duke Ellington plays reverberating in the city of Niigata at dusk.Deepest gratitude extends to boosters who supported in making the piece.
